Police say a woman found dead at a house in Oldham had been stabbed 'multiple' times.

30-year-old Farkhanda Younis, known to her friends and family as Jabeen Younis, was discovered a property in Bamford Street in Chadderton on Friday.

Her 7-year-old son was also in the house.

A 20-year-old woman has been arrested and released on bail.

Detective Chief Inspector Pete Marsh, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "Since Farkhanda's body was found on Friday morning, a team of detectives have been carrying out substantial inquiries to establish the exact circumstances surrounding her death.

"We have made significant progress with our investigation since Friday but this work is very much ongoing.

"Our thoughts remain with Farkhanda's family at this very distressing time and we are determined to provide them with the full answers around her untimely death.

"Without question, people in the local area will be concerned when they hear about this tragic news, but we do not believe there are any immediate concerns for the safety of the wider community.

"However, extra police patrols will remain in the community around Bamford Street to provide reassurance.''

Police were called to the house at 10am on Friday after receiving reports expressing concern for the welfare of the occupant.

Ms Younis had suffered multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
