As a mum fought off a mugger in Collyhurst, her attacker tipped her baby out of a pram.

At about 7pm on Friday 10 June 2011, the 26 year old mum was walking along Rochdale Road pushing a pram containing her four month old baby.

The offender then sneaked up behind her and tried to snatch her handbag from her shoulder.

The woman refused to give up her bag and in the struggle the pram was tipped over and the baby fell out.

The offender then ran off empty-handed.

The baby had a small graze to the side of her head but was otherwise unharmed.

The offender was white, 12 to 15-years-old with a slim build about 5ft 3in tall and wearing a grey hoody. He possibly had light blond hair.

Sergeant Christopher Flint, of Bradford Park Volume Crime Team, said: "These were actions of a desperate individual who is prepared to prey on a mother and baby.

It is only through good luck that this baby wasn't badly injured.

You can only imagine what was going through the mother's mind when she saw her baby falling out the pram.

It was early evening at the time and there would have been people out and about at the time. If you saw anyone running off down Rochdale Road at the time and didn't think much of it at the time, then please give us a call.

Your information could help us take a desperate criminal off the streets."
