Man Seriously Injured After Attack In City Centre

A man has had to be treated for serious injuries after he was attacked in Manchester City Centre.

At around 2.40am on Sunday 5 June 2011, a 22-year-old man was walking on Portland Street in the direction of Piccadilly Gardens with two women when they were approached by three men.

One of the men said something to the group before the victim was attacked. It is believed one of the men had a weapon that he used to attack the victim with, causing cuts to his head and arm.

He was knocked to the ground and kicked in the face, leaving him with a fractured eye socket and cheekbone.

The men ran off in the direction of Faulkner Street.

The men are described as being dark skinned. One wore a white shirt and another had a bright blue jacket and had spikey hair.

Detective Inspector Dan Clegg from North Manchester CID said: "The victim received horrific injuries in a violent attack and we are determined to find those responsible.

"I would urge anyone who may have seen the incident or the offenders running away from the scene to contact police as soon as possible."
