Man Charged Over OAP Rape

Police have charged a man after a 75-year-old woman was raped in her own home.

26-year-old Wesley Wilson, of no fixed address, is charged with rape

It happened at her home on Unsworth Way in Oldham at about 6pm on Saturday 7 January 2012.

A man came into the block of flats where the woman lives and pressed her buzzer. She went downstairs and was confronted by the man, who said he needed to go to her flat to see if any work needed doing.

The woman refused to let him in but the offender was persistent and managed to get through the door and followed the pensioner back upstairs to her flat.

After checking every room in the flat, the man told the woman to go into her bedroom. She initially refused fearing she would be attacked, but was then raped by the offender.

He then fled from the flat.

The woman reported the attack to a family member the following day.

Wilson is due before Oldham Magistrates' Court on Saturday 14 January 2012.
