A girl who attacked a former friend with a razor, leaving her needing hundreds of stitches to her face, has been jailed.

17 year old Aroosa Jannisar admitted wounding with intent at an earlier hearing.

She has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison at Bolton Crown Court.

Shortly before 2.50pm on Thursday 26 May 2011, police were called to Market Street, Bury by the ambulance service.

Officers attended and discovered a girl had been assaulted at a nearby subway off Haymarket Street by the defendant, who was armed with a razorblade.

The defendant was arrested at the scene and a bloodied razorblade was recovered from a nearby bin.

During her police interview she admitted knowing the victim and claimed they had recently fallen out over a dispute involving a boyfriend.

The victim has undergone plastic surgery after suffering four deep cuts to her face.

Detective Sergeant Darren Collins, of Bury CID, said: "This was an extremely serious assault that has left the victim with shocking and life changing injuries. Jannisar attacked the girl indiscriminately with a razor blade during the frenzied attack, and the fact this is seemingly over a fall-out involving a boy is nothing short of tragic. The lives of two young women have been ruined as a result of this needless and shocking incident."
