The body of a man has been found at a park in Rusholme.

Yesterday afternoon police were called to Birchfields Park, off Birchfields Road, to reports a man was unconscious.

A man believed to be in his 50s was found by officers at the scene. He appeared to have suffered a facial injury.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man is described as being about 50-years-old with a heavy build, bald, clean shaven and with olive skin. He was wearing light blue shirt, grey flannels, grey socks and black shoes.

He’s not yet been identified.

A post mortem examination will take place later today to find out how he died.

Detective Inspector Theresa Carter from South Manchester CID, said: “This inquiry is still at an early stage, but I want to reassure the public that we have a team of detectives investigating this incident.”

“We do not yet know how the man came to be injured which is why we really want to hear from anyone who knows what may have happened.

“We are treating this as suspicious as this stage due to the circumstances in which he was found.

"We are keeping an open mind and are appealing to anyone who may be able to account for this man movements, so we can piece everything together and provide some much needed answers for the man's family."
