London Mayor calls for new airport

London's Mayor Boris Johnson has backed a report calling for a brand new airport in the South East.

Boris has increased pressure on the coalition government over the issue of aviation - by backing a report calling for a new airport in the south-east.

The government has already ruled out new runways in London.

Releasing the report today, Mr Johnson said: "For London to retain its position as the heartbeat of global business, we need aviation links that will allow us to compete with our rivals."

Mr Johnson has long favoured a new airport in the Thames estuary.
