The Commissioner's Cup 2014

On Saturday 5th July, 6 teams came down to Imber Court to play some highly competitive rugby, all whilst raising money for Help a Capital Child.

At the end of a fast-paced day of rugby tens and an intense final, Surrey Police received the runners-up prize and the Metropolitan Police Team won the Commissioner’s Cup awarded by Deputy Commissioner, Craig Mackey. Partnering with the Metropolitan Police and Home Counties at this year's Commissioner's Cup, demonstrates how through the incredible projects that we support and the ongoing work of the Police, together we can improve the lives of the many children and young people who need it most.

The rugby wasn’t the only competition on the day; a team of dogs from both the Essex and Metropolitan Police Teams came down to compete for the Best Turned Out Dog. After Caesar, Jasper, Widget & Wilson (along with their handlers) impressed us with their skills; Wilson and his trainer Tony received the coveted award. We were also joined by Exchanging Places who were set up to raise awareness of cycle safety. Everyone who attended had the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat of a Police HGV to get a better understanding of what the driver can and can’t see, thereby creating safer streets for all cyclists, children and adults alike.

It was a great day and we’re already looking forward to next year. If you would like to continue to support this partnership, you can donate to the campaign here.

Special thanks must go to all the teams involved in the day who also donated to the fund, Met Police Catering who are fundraising through the year, Imber Court for hosting an amazing event & Barbara Riggs for supplying The Commissioner’s Cup.

Also a huge thank you to everyone who came down, with special thanks to Deputy Commissioner Craig Mackey, Chief Constable Stephen Kavanagh of Essex Police, Chief Constable Giles York of Sussex Police and Lynne Owens Chief Constable of Surrey Police.
