At 95.8 Capital FM’s Help a Capital Child we aim to give opportunities to London's children and young people who experience poverty and disadvantage ; have/are experiencing abuse, neglect, homelessness, violence or crime ; or who have an illness or disability.
Help a Capital Child is also committed to funding those projects directly benefiting , and making a positive difference to the lives of London’s children and young people (C&YP). Projects seeking the views of the C&YP and involving them in the decision making process are encouraged.
An independent Allocations Panel made of representatives from London’s voluntary sector then assesses those grant applications from groups who have:
What Happened in 2011?
Over our two rounds of funding in 2011, £680,109 was awarded to 323 charities and voluntary groups through our Small Grants programme, benefiting 58,000 of the London’s less advantaged and most vulnerable children and young people.

Statutory organisations such as schools, local authorities and hospitals cannot apply to Help a Capital Child.

Types of Projects
Projects considered for funding include support groups for disabled children and young people, or those with a special need or an illness; a range of sports, music, drama & leisure activities; and youth clubs. Grants are also awarded to refuge & homelessness projects; holiday play schemes and residential breaks in the UK; cultural activities; supplementary schools; literacy programmes.
Funding Requests
Our most common funding requests are for sessional coaches / tutors / playworkers for on-going clubs or holiday scheme projects, followed by venue hire and equipment used by children and young people. Other examples are given in our Guidelines, see link below.

When and How To Apply
Each year there are two funding rounds, and organisations may only submit one application to HACC per year, to either the 1st or 2nd deadline.

Alternatively you can request a form by post - please send in an large A4 sae (61p stamp) to: Help a Capital Child 2012 Applications, 95.8 Capital FM, 30 Leicester Square, London, WC2H 7LA.
It is essential that all potential applicants fully read our Guidelines , and in particular the Filling in the Form section which gives details on the information which should be provided in each question. Most groups prefer to type directly into sections 9 and 11 or stick inserts into these spaces on the form. Please do not extend any of the sections or pages on the form.
As always, we encourage groups to contact us before submitting an application to Help a Capital Child, if they have any queries on our guidelines and/or would like to discuss a project idea. For repeat applicants, please ‘treat every application as your first’, even if you’ve been successful before, providing as much detail as in a previous application form.
