A grown up Halloween
It is possible to have a grown up Halloween and actually it's one of our favourite times of year. Any excuse for some fancy dress and a few drinks down the pub.
For something a little different the ICA Bar is holding a special event with films theatre and cocktails all ghoulishly spooky. Ma Butcher will be hosting the night and giving away a bottle of bubbly to the best costume on the night. To top it all off, there will be some horrific theatrics of sound, live action and animation that could scare the boo out a ghost. And if you still want more there will be dancing to electro, disco, pop, rock, show tunes and soundtracks throughout the night. One big scary party and we say it's one not to be missed.
If you feel like the whole point of Halloween is to scare yourself so much that there possibly could be an accident then the Halloween All Nighter at The Curzon cinema should definitely be a place you go. Four fantastically spooky films showing from dusk until dawn at one of our favourite independent cinemas.
1st November sees the 2008 Zombie Walk (pub crawl) start from Waxy O'Connors at 2pm, and continues on around the city for several hours. The theme is to dress like the undead and zombie stop between the bars. Not bad!
If ghosts don't fill you with fear and vampires don't make you scream then maybe Fright Nights at Thorpe Park will tickle your morbid fancy. The Park has a series of scary nights where it's open until 10pm and you can be thrown around and scared senseless on rides. You can get from Waterloo station to Staines (where the park is) in about 30 minutes.
If all of this seems like a little bit too much like hard work and all you really want to do is go out, have a few with friends and dance the night away the Bethnal Green Working Man's Club is the place to be. Dance away to the Monster Mash and have your feet possessed by some seriously good dancing music. Generally everyone is in fancy dress and there is even a magic act on stage. It's a really easy alternative night out and highly recommended by us.
Let us know what you’re going to be doing on Halloween and you never know you may see us down there.
