Update from our showbiz reporter Kevin Hughes live from LA.

The biggest names in music are currently preparing to walk down the red carpet at the Nokia Theatre here in Los Angeles, at the 2011 MTV VMA Awards.

A worldwide TV audience of over a billion people will tune into see performances from Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Adele, Chris Brown, Pitbull, Lil Wayne, Bruno Mars and appearances from the likes of Britney Spears and Kim Kardashian.

The latest rumour is that Kanye West, with 6 VMA nominations, will perform with Jay-Z. However, MTV have so far refused to confirm nor deny the story.

Tickets for the actual show are the hottest in town with reports of fans paying over $800 on ebay to secure tickets.
And the latest odds predict that Adele and Katy Perry will be the big winners tonight, with most experts tipping Adele to win Video of the Year.

Organisers have also been studying the latest weather and news reports, over fears that Hurricane Irene could prevent some artists and guests flying in from New York.

As for the show, I've heard that Chris Brown will perform a medley of hits, Adele will perform Someone Like You and expect a beautiful, moving tribute to Amy Winehouse. I also believe Beyonce is planning a sizzling rendition of new single 1+1.

Britney Spears fans are waiting to discover if she'll appear on stage as part of the celebration and there are various rumours today about which act will close the big show tonight.

And all eyes will be on Lady Gaga tonight, who's promising an 'umissable' show opener with rumours that she'll be joined on stage by a special guest, possibly from the UK.

The MTV VMAs are this Sunday and you can watch the show on MTV UK Monday, 9pm. Keep it Capital for all the latest from the event.
