Prisoner Found Dead In Derbyshire Cell

An investigation has been launched after a 34-year-old man was found dead in his prison cell in Derbyshire.

Shazad Ali was found unresponsive at HMP Sudbury, Derbyshire, on the morning of Friday, September 4. The cause of death is unknown and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

Paramedics were called to help Ali after he was found unresponsive in his cell at around 7.30am but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A Prison Service spokesman said: ``As with all deaths in custody there will be an investigation by the independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.''
