The mum from Leicester will be sentenced next month after the fatal crash off the M1

A driver who was under the influence of drugs at the time of a fatal crash in Leicestershire has been convicted.

37 year-old Anastasia James from Thornton Close in Braunstone has been found guilty of 2 counts of causing death by careless driving whilst impaired through drugs.

The crash on the M1 - which killed her daughter and son's girlfriend - happened back in January 2014.

James will be sentenced in April.

Detective Sergeant Mark Partridge of East Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“James’ actions that fateful day resulted in the death of two teenage girls, one of which was her daughter. This case shows the shocking effects of driving whilst under the influence of drugs.

“The deaths and now the subsequent conviction has devastated the families of all those involved. We hope that this case demonstrates to others the risk they take when they decide to get behind the wheel of a car, you are not only risking your life but the lives of other road users.”
