Children as young as ten have been caught with drugs in school in the East Midlands.

Police figures show more than 2,000 cases of illegal drugs being found in schools in the last four years, including a 10-year-old with cannabis on them in Leicestershire.

The youngest children with drugs were 8.

A 19-year-old mum was also found with cannabis on school premises in Leicestershire.

Crack and Heroin

Class A drugs like as heroin and crack cocaine are among the illegal substances found.

Teachers described the figures as a 'worry', and 'the tip of the iceberg of what young people are encountering on the streets'.

The data, from 34 police forces dating back to 2011, was obtained by the Press Association under the Freedom of Information Act.
