Police in Derbyshire want to stop anyone else falling victim of a scam, where a man in Amber Valley is posing as police officer.

He called his victims telling them they've had their accounts hacked and asking them to withdraw cash so it can be examined by forensic officers.

Officers say they've had calls from people saying they've had a call from a man claiming to be a police officer from Aston Police Station in the West Midlands Police.

The man then says that money has been taken from their account and asks the victim to withdraw an amount of cash from their account so that it can be forensically examined.

In some cases the man then went to the victim's house and got the cash - in others he has picked the person up and driven them to a bank to get the money out.

Sergeant Gareth Fuller from Amber Valley CID said: "We have noted that recent incidents have been primarily targeted at the elderly and vulnerable members of society, and while they are not the only victims of the crime, we would like to urge everybody to pass on this message to their parents, grandparents and elderly neighbours.

"I would like to remind residents that the police would never contact you and ask you to withdraw cash under any circumstances.

"By spreading the message we can aim to stamp out fraud and protect more people from falling victim to the crime."
