Report suggests Jimmy Savile visited Rampton Hospital in Nottinghamshire during the 1970s and 1980s.

The investigation claims Savile had frequent access to the high security hospital.

Investigators said they received consistent reports that Savile generally visited the hospital estate in a motor home.

They found a photograph from about 1970 of Savile in the motor home at the hospital entrance building with eight children and two staff close by.

A former member of staff said that around 1970 he called into the staff social club after work for a drink and Savile was already there and 'running around like an idiot'.

Two current and four former members of staff said it was common knowledge around the hospital and hospital estate that female nurses from the hospital frequently visited Savile's motor home for consensual sexual intercourse.

Celebrity Status

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust has told Capital its investigation into Jimmy Savile's contact with Rampton Hospital was prompted by a Freedom of Information request that uncovered a number of visits by Savile in the early 70s.

The Trust says it's as confident as it can be that Savile's contact was limited to what is contained within the report, telling Capital:

'During the investigation we reviewed all current Policies and Procedures at the Trust. We are confident that the Trust's Policies and Procedures are robust, thorough and fit for purpose.

'We are assured that celebrity status would not empower an individual or individuals to gain access to Rampton Hospital patients, staff and services, or indeed to any of the Trust's other premises.

'We have offered support to those who have come forward during the investigation and would urge anyone else that the report affects and who would like support to make themselves known to the Staff Counselling Service.'
