1. Help A London Child

Capital is 'ABLE 2' make a splash in South London

95.8 Capital FM’s very own Des Paul visited Westcroft Leisure Centre in Carshalton to watch over 150 disabled children from schools in Sutton, Bromley, Croydon, Lewisham and Merton take part in the annual Sutton Swimming Gala.

Des was also there to present the medals to the children after the races, as well as meet some of the young people who benefited from a project called ABLE 2, funded by Help a London Child's Free Sport for All programme.

The Children received regular lessons in small groups which gave them the support they needed to progress from swimming a width to a length. They all successfully swam a length at the gala and Des was able to congratulate them afterwards.

Des who presents Capital’s Dance Anthems said: "It's really gratifying to see money raised from Capital FM's Help a London Child being directly used in this way. Not only are these children in South London getting a chance to learn how to swim but equally importantly getting a chance to develop from a social perspective and be part of a very worthwhile scheme."

A couple of the other six ABLE 2 (Achieve, Believe, Learn and Enjoy) projects run by our partners, Pro-Active South London and London Sports Forum for Disabled People, include Croydon Sports Development Team’s Sports Hall Athletics for disabled children and young people aged 8-18, and Bromley District Cricket’s coaching and an end of project festival for young people with disabilities within mainstream education.
