Downing Street Christmas Party
On 2nd December, 95.8 Capital FM’s Help a London Child were given the fantastic opportunity to organise a Children’s Christmas Party hosted by the chancellor’s wife, Maggie Darling and Help a London Child patron, Margherita Taylor at No.11 Downing Street.
The young people who attended were from projects that Help a London Child has helped to fund and they included, Barnet Young Carers and Siblings (BYCAS ), Plot 10 Community Play Project and Westminster Befriend A Family .
No. 11 was transformed into a themed Wonderland with fairy princesses, magicians, balloon modellers and face painters. With the help of the princesses, children could get involved in a arts and crafts workshop, meet Santa in the Grotto and do the limbo. They were also be entertained by a “pirate” DJ and a hoola hooper. A conga line to rival all others could be seen making its way around No.11 Downing Street!
Remote control toys from the hit new animated TV show, Flash and Dash, were kindly donated to every child by Danbar Toys. Andrew Dickson, Managing Director at Danbar commented: “We’re delighted to be supporting Help a London Child, donating toys from our Flash & Dash range”.
Victoria Cran, project worker from BYACS said “When we got onto the tube, they were telling passengers where they had been and Louis took out his camera to show the pictures of him standing with Mrs. Darling. Louis said “It was fantastic. Everything was wonderful!” and Shannon said it was a “really exciting and the best trip ever”.
Some of the children didn’t know each other before the party so they’ve made new friends. Christopher, who until this outing hadn’t been on a trip with us before and hadn’t really engaged with us wants to start coming to the BYCAS clubs as he knows Rosie will be there.”
It was a truly magical evening for all!
We would like to express our sincere thanks to Maggie Darling for all her support.
