Cerebral Palsy Sport

Cerebral Palsy Sport gives children and young people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities the opportunity to enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits of sport and physical activity. SportStart Days give children the chance to play sports including boccia, table cricket and sitting volleyball.

With your support Make Some Noise can fund 5 Sportstart days across the East Midlands, giving fantastic opportunities to young people like Sophie, aged 17.

“Cerebral Palsy Sport has really helped to change my life and has given me so much confidence to get more involved in not only physical sport but in day to day life. I have always had a passion for swimming ever since I was young because it gives me a sense of freedom and weightlessness. However I never expected that I would have the opportunity to participate in competitions where I was on a level playing field to all my competitors. That is where CP Sport came in.”

After competing for the first time, Sophie now trains and races regularly, and said “It’s a brilliant feeling when for once I am the same speed as everyone else, and sometimes even get to lead the lane!

Not only does CP Sport provide the sense of equality, and not feeling like a bit of an outsider in an able bodied environment, but the charity has also provided me with great social support and advice, and also some of my best friends. This has been brilliant for me and my parents as it has allowed them to be able to share the problems they face when having a child with cerebral palsy. CP sport really has completely changed my life for the better, and I hope it can continue to do the same for other people like me!!!”
