A Solihull drink driver drove for more than two miles on three wheels after failing to realise one of her tyres came off.

Laura Hewlett-Conway, 33, from Ravenswood Drive in Solihull, up residential roads in Monkspath and narrowly missed parked cars as she struggled to control her three-wheel Ford Ka.

Solihull Police were alerted to her driving erratically in Widney Manor Road at around 11pm on 23 January with some residents, alarmed by a loud screeching noise, believing the car was being driven whilst clamped.

Officers found the hairdresser in Stratford Road stood next to the driver’s door in just her pyjamas and unsteady on her feet.

She initially claimed the wheel had only just fallen off the car but officers were able to trace back a trail of tarmac destruction stretching for around 2.7 miles!

Hewlett-Conway initially denied drink driving and dangerous driving but later admitted the offences having registered 78 microgrammes in 100ml of breath – more than twice the legal limit.

At Birmingham Magistrates Court she was handed a community order including 180 hours of unpaid work and an 18-month supervision programme.

She was also banned from the roads for 17 months and must pass an extended driving test in order to get back her licence.
