Dudley Man Jailed For Hammer Attack On Brother

A man from the West Midlands has been jailed for 12 years for a hammer attack on his brother.

Mark Baker, from High Street, Lye, believed that his brother had coerced their late grandmother into changing her will favouring his sibling and, on 27 May last year, he went to his brother's home and attacked him with a hammer.

The 50-year-old suffered multiple fractures to his head and body and a collapsed lung which left him in hospital for a week, however he was unwillingly to press charges against his brother and Baker was released without charge.

But 47-year-old Baker continued his vendetta and was arrested again on 3 October after assaulting his brother in the street, damaging his car and threatening to kill him.

Investigating officer, DC Dan Bailey said: "It became clear that Baker was consumed with anger at the injustice he felt over the will and his brother came to believe that the threat to his life was very real. Baker will now pay a heavy price for his greed."

Baker was found guilty after a three day trial of wounding with intent at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 4 April and was sentenced on Friday 30 May.
