A Birmingham woman has been bailed following her arrest on suspicion of Syria related terror offences.

The 25 year-old, who had been living Sparkbrook before going abroad, was detained by Counter Terror Officers from the West Midlands at Heathrow on Wednesday (18 February) after getting off a flight from Turkey.

She had her one-year old son with her and the woman was also questioned on suspicion of child neglect and child abduction.

The boy is now subject of a police protection order and appropriate measures were taken, in partnership with children's services, to ensure his welfare.

West Midlands police have reiterated the operation was pre-planned and intelligence led meaning no one on the flight or at the airport was at risk.

In a statement detectives added that the woman "has been bailed with conditions pending further enquiries."
