Birmingham Man Arrested Over Terror

A man's been arrested in Alum Rock under the Terrorism Act on suspicion of having an offensive weapon.

West Midlands Police and the army were called in to check out some suspicious items found at the 27-year-old's house on Naseby Road on Sunday afternoon.

He was arrested under section 41 of the Terrorism Act concerning the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism. 

Homes nearby had to be evacuated at the time but we're told the public aren't at risk.

The property remains cordoned off this morning.

Detectives from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit now have until Tuesday morning to question the man.
