Birmingham City Council's child protection services described as 'inadequate'

A year after they were found to be improving, Birmingham City Council's child protection services are now described as 'inadequate'.

A surprise Ofsted inspection last month into the city's social services found some children are still being left at risk of harm. The Inspection body gave the service a 'performs poorly' rating.

The Council's child protection services were told to improve back in 2009 after several child deaths, including the case of Khyra Ishaq from Handsworth who died from malnutrition.

Birmingham City Council however say it remains focused on protecting the lives of vulnerable children and has made improvements.
