Birmingham City Council say another 1,200 jobs will go as they try to save £250million in the next 4 years.

The council's released it's latest budget information and says £90million will need to be saved in the next year.

10,000 staff have already been lost their jobs since 2010 and that's meant the size of the council is now half what it was 5 years ago.

The council has promised to protect the £31million being spent on safeguarding vulnerable young people.

The new Birmingham City Council leader John Clancy who replaced Albert Bore last month called for people to take part in consultations on the budget:

Cllr John Clancy said: “This is another challenging budget. Our current estimate is that we must cut spending by over £250 million over the next four years and that’s on top of over £560 million annual savings the council has already made since 2010/11.

“So it’s more important than ever that we work with the people of Birmingham, with our partners and with communities to make some very tough decisions. I’ve made it very clear that this is not a case of ‘doing things to the city’ but more a case of ‘doing things with the city’."
