Former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher and The Spice Girls enjoyed a Britpop reunion as they celebrated their performance at the closing ceremony.

The 90s stars partied into the early hours of the morning, with The Spice Girls keeping fans up to date on their party via Twitter.

In one amusing photo taken in a large garden, Liam can be seen striking Usain Bolt's famous lightning bolt trademark pose alongside Emma Bunton, Mel B, Geri Halliwell and Muse drummer Dominic Howard.

The Spice Girls' appearance at the Olympic Stadium ended weeks of speculation that the girl group were set to reunite for the closing ceremony.

The girls, who last reformed in 2008 for a world tour, played two of their biggest hits, 'Wannabe' and 'Spice Up Your Life'.

In a message on Twitter after their performance, Victoria Beckham said she had enjoyed being a "pop star for the night" again.

She said that she had been left "totally overwhelmed", adding: "Thank you so much to all of our AMAZING fans."

Liam also rolled back the years as he and his band Beady Eye delivered an emotional version of Oasis' biggest hit, 'Wonderwall'.

The closing ceremony was billed by organisers as the ultimate after party and delivered with a setlist of songs taken from five decades of British music.

Other artists who performed inside the Olympic Stadium included One Direction, Jessie J, Tinie Tempah, Ed Sheeran, Pet Shop Boys, George Michael and Taio Cruz.
