The 'One Thing' singer said his relationship with X Factor runner-up Rebecca was a "mistake".
Rebecca Ferguson has responded to One Direction star Zayn Malik's recent comments about their relationship. after he described their time together as a "mistake" and a "weird situation".
The former X Factor UK star says she was "shocked" when Zayn spoke out last week about their four month relationship back in 2011, but says she thinks he was probably "put up" to it.
"I was so shocked by what he said!" Rebecca revealed, in this week's issue of New! magazine. "But I'm not going to retaliate.
"I'm not one to reveal big secrets about what's gone on in a relationship, and I think he was probably put up to this," she explained. "I know him too well to think he's say it deliberately.
"I won't talk about what went wrong between us but he knows what happened," Rebecca continued. "And it is what it is."
As well as promising not to reveal the reasons behind her split from 'Live While We're Young' singer Zayn, Rebecca also said she approves of his relationship with Little Mix star Perrie Edwards and is a fan of the girl band.
"I am a fan of the Little Mix girls and [Perrie] seems lovely. I think they're good together," she added.
