The 'Little Things' singer says didn't want to embarrass himself because he is a "massive" fan of the actor.

One Direction star Zayn Malik says he opted out of joining his bandmates for an impromptu jam session with Hollywood star Johnny Depp because he didn't want to embarrass himself.

The 'What Makes You Beautiful' singers were invited to the Pirates Of The Caribbean star's studio in Los Angeles earlier this month for a private session as a present for his 13 year-old daughter Lily Rose, but Zayn was the only member not to attend and says he "regrets it for sure" now.

"I was too nervous to go," Zayn admitted to The Sun this week. "I am a massive, massive fan and I didn't want to embarrass myself.

"So I let the boys go without me," the boy band star explained. "Hopefully, there will be a next time. The boys said he was totally cool.

"I kind of regret it for sure and the lads said I was a scaredy cat," Zayn added, comparing the situation to when the band meet their own fans. "Some of our fans get so excited or nervous when they meet us and that's how I was at the thought of being with Johnny.

"But instead of lapping it up and enjoying it I ran the other way."

The 'Live While We're Young' singers had enjoyed a hugely successful month in America after their new album 'Take Me Home' went straight to number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, their second number one album stateside this year.

One Direction were recently confirmed for a performance on the live final of this year's series of The X Factor UK.
