One Direction's BRIT Award Nomination Is A "Massive" Birthday Present

The 'Gotta Be You' singers have also thanked fans for their support after being nominated for Best Song at next month's awards ceremony.

One Direction's Liam Payne says their BRIT Awards 2012 nomination is a "massive" birthday present for band member Zayn Malik, who turned 19 today (12th January).

The former The X Factor band were nominated in the Best Song category for their debut single 'What Makes You Beautiful', which topped the Vodafone Big Top 40 back in September 2011.

"Can't believe we have been nominated for a brit award wow!" Louis Tomlinson tweeted this evening, while Liam Payne posted, "What a massive bday present for zayn aswell happy birthday bud."

Harry Styles also posted his thanks to fans for supporting the band over the past few months, and said it felt "incredible" to be up for a BRIT Award.

"Thank you for all your messages guys, you truly are amazing," Harry tweeted. "This feels incredible and has just topped an already swell year : ) thank you."

One Direction are due to unveil the music video for their third single 'One Thing' tomorrow (13th January), taken from the band's debut album 'Up All Night'.

Voting for all of the categories at this year's BRIT Awards has now opened, including the British Single award, which is voted for by listeners of Capital FM.

Each listener who casts a vote for British Single will be entered into a competition to win a pair of tickets  to this year's ceremony.
