The two artists' heated exchanged resulted in auditions being cancelled for the day in North Carolina.

Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey were involved in a heated exchange during auditions on American Idol this week, resulting in filming being cancelled for the remainder of the day.

The incident occurred in Charlotte, North Carolina and sees the 'Starships' singer launching a foul-mouthed tirade at Mariah in which she allegedly threatened to "knock out" her fellow female star.

"I told them I'm not f***** putting up with her f***** highness over there," the Trinidad-born star can be heard saying in the footage captured by TMZ.

It is reported that Nicki was upset at the constant jibes from the 'Loverboy' singer and hit out.

"Nicki’s manager and team convinced her to come back to the show. Mariah kept at it and called Nicki a b**** and then proceeded to cuss her out. Producers had to stop filming and call it a night," sources told Mouthtoears.com

Fellow panelists Keith Urban and Randy Jackson can be seen attempting to calm both female stars down in the video clip.

Before Nicki had officially joined the show, there were reports that Mariah was upset at the prospect the 'Superbass' star could be joining.

Once the full panel was selected, there were also reports of arguments during the first day of filming, something which Mariah quickly denied.

Meanwhile, Nicki is currently planning to star in three new reality TV specials to be aired on the E! network later this year.
