X Factor winner Matt Cardle will write his own songs

X Factor winner Matt Cardle has been given the nod by Simon Cowell to pen some of the tracks on his debut album himself.

A source told The Mirror newspaper: “Simon and Matt spoke over Christmas and texted ideas about what Matt wants to do. Cowell has said that he wants him to write and co-write some songs.”

“They know they want great material, if the songs are penned by Matt then even better. He’s chuffed.”
And the musician could perform with a live band when he starts touring.

The source added: “He likes being with a group on stage and that’s an idea Simon’s on board with too.”

The once painter and decorator’s debut hit ‘When We Collide’ stormed straight to the top of the charts to take last year’s Christmas Number one.

Cardle is also for 'Best British Single' at this year's Brit Awards.
