The 'Can't Hold Us' duo say it has always been a dream to get nominated for the prestigious awards show.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis say they were incredibly surprised to receive so many nominations for this year's MTV Video Music Awards, as well as confirming plans for yet another video from their hugely successful album 'The Heist'.

The pair have made it big this year with hits like 'Thrift Shop' and 'Can't Hold Us', landing themselves six nods for this year's awards ceremony, and say it has been a dream of their for quite some time.

"When we started making music videos it's always the goal to get a VMA nomination, it's really to take home a Moonman, "Macklemore told MTV News after the announcement.

"Once ['Thrift Shop'] started doing better it was like, 'Maybe we might actually get a nomination, maybe that might happen'."

Despite the pair dreaming of a VMA nomination, Macklemore admits that they were in no way expecting to tie with Justin Timberlake for the most nominations at this year's event.

"[We were] hoping for it and the news came in today that we got nominated six times, tied with JT, we all just celebrated. It was a beautiful morning," the rapper recalled. "I think that no one expected it, but the fact that MTV acknowledged our art on that level and the time and dedication that we put into the videos and the fact that we got those nominations because of it is an amazing thing."

The duo are up for Best Music Video for 'Thrift Shop' and Best Video With A Social Message for 'Same Love' while their latest hit 'Can't Hold Us' is up for Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Cinematography, Best Direction and Best Editing

The MTV Video Music Awards 2013 takes place live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on 25th August.
