Fresh from scoring her first number one with 'Hideaway' on the Vodafone Big Top 40, we get to know more about the brilliant Kiesza.
25-year-old Kiesa Ellestad grew up in Calgary, Canada before spending recent years living in New York.
The star trained as a ballerina and used to be a tall-ship sailor in the Army. “For a large portion of my teens I thought I was going to be a captain and set sail forever,” she said. “It was fun. It was like a video game, but when I started realising that one day they’d want me to use them in a real situation on real people, I knew I had to back out.” Picture: Instagram

Her early songs had a folk sound, which quickly won her a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she discovered her love of pop music. Picture: Instagram
She met the producer of 'Hideaway', Rami Samir, while at University. “Rami was making a beat in the studio and I had two hours before I was due to get on a flight,” she explained. He said, ‘why don’t you hop in the booth and see what happens?’ The whole thing just came out. We ended up finishing the entire track in an hour and a half. It’s like it was meant to happen.” Picture: Instagram
The one-take video was shot in Brooklyn, New York in just two single takes after she injured herself. She said: “I wanted to recall some of the classic street dance moves of the 90s, and throw them in with some more modern moves." Picture: Hideaway Video Still
