The 'Wide Awake' singer says her split from husband Russell Brand will influence the tone of her next record.

Katy Perry has promised her eventual third studio album will be "much darker" than her 2010 sophomore release 'Teenage Dream', because of what she went through with her split from husband Russell Brand.

The couple wed in October 2010 but announced plans to divorce at the end of 2011, a break-up that 'Wide Awake' singer Katy says will "inevitably" affect the tone and meaning of her next musical release.

"It will be a much darker album than the previous one," Katy confirmed to L'Uomo Vogue in their July/August issue. "It was inevitable, after what I went through.

The 'California Gurls' singer also admitted she has some regrets about the way her relationship ended last year, but says her emotions about the split will be represented in her highly anticipated third studio record.

"If I had a time machine and could go back in time, I would," Katy added. "But I can't, so you'll discover another part of me."

Katy unveiled her new concert movie Katy Perry: Part Of Me 3D in Hollywood at the start of this week, performing at the live event attended by the likes of Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen, and flew out to Sydney, Australia yesterday (28th June) for the film's premiere in Sydney.

The 'E.T.' singer has vowed to go "into hiding" after she finishes promoting the 3D concert movie, after working tirelessly promoting 'Teenage Dream', a large number of singles and a worldwide tour ever since the album's release back in 2010.

Katy Perry: Part Of Me 3D will be officially released in cinemas in the US and the UK on 5th July.
