The 'I Kissed A Girl' star's family admit the publicity is helping them fill their church services.

Katy Perry's parents have reportedly confessed that news of their daughter's divorce to Russell Brand is helping attract people to their church services.

Keith and Mary Hudson are both evangelical ministers in Ohio and performed their first service since news of Katy's marriage breakdown on Wednesday (4th January).

According to The Sun, Mary was heard saying: "I'm sure Katy is trending on the internet just to get you to church tonight. I mean all over the world, who knows how God is bringing them in? The most important thing is you are here and God wants to put the fire in you in 2012."

The 'California Gurls' singer's father is also reported to have shown his support to his daughter by asking others not to be judgmental.

He said: "I love my daughter and I will always love her. Stop being judgmental and critical. Do not close the doors to your loved ones, especially your children.

"Just because they do not like what you do or what you are, they are still praying that you stay in the race. They are counting on you. I believe in God, for every one of my children."

A video was also said to have been shown before the pair took to the stage - showing them with their daughter at an award's ceremony, which Keith admitted has allowed them to preach to a wider audience.

He added: "What has taken place in my daughter's life has opened many opportunities to go in and be with guarded and gated people. They like us because we're cool. We are not threatening."

News of Katy and comedian Russell Brand's marriage broke last week after 14 months together and the American singer is rumoured to be making her first live apperance at the People's Choice Awards in Los Angeles on the 11th January.
