The 'Wide Awake' singer was "hotly pursued" by the show's executives as they looked to find replacement for Steven Tyler.

Katy Perry has apparently turned down a $20 million offer to join the next series of American Idol.

The 'I Kissed A Girl' star was "hotly pursued" by the music reality show who are still looking to find a replacement for Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler.

"She was being hotly pursued," a source told Us magazine. "They really wanted her."

TMZ also reports that the 'Part Of Me' star was initially offered a deal around $18 million before it was bumped up to $20 million for a one year contract.

The publication added that Katy made it clear money wasn't the issue and that she was simply not interested in any way of joining the show.

Mariah Carey was brought in recently following the departure of Jennifer Lopez and a host of names have been linked to a position on the show in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Katy reportedly split from musician John Mayer after a heavily rumoured romance over the past few weeks.
