They released a new album, duetted with One Direction...and gave Oritse the shock of his life on his 25th birthday! Check out JLS' 2011 highlights.
JLS dropped in to the Capital FM studio to join Rich Clarke and James Barr for an exclusive webchat where they answered some of their fans biggest and most intimate questions. During the chat, the boys revealed they don't mind being grabbed on stage as long as it's not Oritse's hat and Aston teased that he might want to date one of the girls from The Saturdays. Re-watch the highlights from the live webchat below.
JLS took to the big screen in June with 3D blockbuster 'Eyes Wide Open', and in doing so became the first pop band in history to release a 3D movie. The film was shown in 180 cinemas across the UK for one day only. It was filmed during their 'Outta This World' tour at London's O2 Arena in January and also offered an insight into the lives of Aston, Marvin, Oritse and JB. Speaking ahead of the film's release Marvin admitted that making a movie had always been on the group's wish list and they were pleased to have achieved their goal. Directors Andy Morahan and Ben Winston teamed up for the movie and agreed that working with the band and the whole experience was "great fun".
During the months of June and July, JLS embarked on a summer UK tour with fellow former The X Factor contestant Olly Murs. The two acts played ten dates together at a variety of outdoor venues and arenas and also stopped off for a show at Alton Towers. The lads have always been supporters and good friends with the 'Heart Skips A Beat' star who recently admitted that he and Aston are planning a trip to Amsterdam together for New Year's Eve.
'She Makes Me Wanna' was the first single to be released off their third studio album 'Jukebox' and featured a collaboration with American recording artist Dev. The heavy dance lead track featured an extremely catchy chorus and some energetic vocals from the boys. The track was recorded with Lady Gaga's producer RedOne and the video for the song shows the boys enjoying a beach party in Miami, Florida. Dev had high praise for the band following a performance at Capital FM's 2011 Summertime Ball where she joined them on stage, saying: "They melted my heart".
It was a great night for JLS back in September when they picked up two prizes at the BT Digital Music Awards. The boys were triumphant in the Best Group category and also picked up Best Video for 'Eye's Wide Shut'. The group arrived typically smartly dressed for the event, with Aston even sporting a pink denim shirt. Olly Murs and Jessie J were among the other big winners on the night at the Roundhouse in Camden, London.
The JLS boys released their third studio album 'Jukebox' in November 2011 - a year after previous record 'Outta This World'. The album has produced the singles 'She Makes Me Wanna' featuring Dev, 'Take A Chance On Me' and forthcoming track 'Do You Feel What I Feel?' The group first started work on the album back in April and had teased that they had recorded with Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Usher and Craig David. Unfortunately, none of these collaborations appeared on the finished album.
JLS' Oritse Williams received a special surprise present on his 25th birthday in November when his band mates supplied him with a buxom stripper. The band had been performing at London's G.A.Y when they caught the singer off guard with their gift. After the event Oritse took to his Twitter account to say: "ALL I KNOW IS WAT HAPPENED TO ME 2NIGHT I WILL "DEFINITELY" GET THE OTHER BOYS BAK FOR…all I can say is it involved whip cream! JB also celebrated turning 25 this year with Aston now 23, and Marvin the eldest at 26. Picture: Photoshot
JLS lent their star power to this year's The X Factor charity single, 'Wishing On A Star'. The track featured the contestants who had made it through to the live stages of the series and also fellow former X Factor boy band One Direction. JLS and 1D make an appearance towards the end of the track and also performed the song during the live results show on week eight of the competition. Sales of the single helped raise money for the Together for Short Lives charity.
Aston, Marvin, JB and Oritse opened the second day of Capital FM's Jingle Bell Ball 2011 at London's O2 Arena in December. Having already performed at the event in previous years the band confessed that it was their best show yet. Their set comprised of some of their biggest hit singles including 'Eyes Wide Shut', 'Everybody In Love', 'Take A Chance On Me', 'Do You Feel What I Feel'?' and set closer 'She Makes Me Wanna', which featured an acrobatic back flip from Aston. Check out the pictures from JLS' set at the Jingle Bell Ball below.
JLS and One Direction joined forces for the night as they created the ultimate boy band supergroup. The two former X Factor contestants performed a mash-up of their hits 'She Makes Me Wanna' and 'What Makes You Beautiful' on The X Factor live final. The performance stole the show on a night where girl group Little Mix were crowned champions of the latest series of the reality show.
