James's track 'Impossible' - a cover of Shontelle's original number - sold a whopping 187,000 copies after just 24 hours on sale, making it the fastest selling X Factor winner's single of all time. 'Impossible' was also confirmed as the fastest-selling track on iTunes in the UK ever, giving the song two records. It was number one in The Vodafone Big Top 40 twice- but not consecutively and has now sold over a million copies.
James Andrew Arthur was born in Middlesbrough to an English mother and Scottish father.
The Twitter feud between the X Factor winner and Scottish comedian Frankie Boyle started back in December when Boyle tweeted that the singer looked like “a cross between a tramp and a duckling”. The pair began trading insults via the social media site, culminating in Arthur stating if he ever met Boyle he would “f*** him up”, and naming him a "sad man". The argument soon calmed down - and as James won the whole competition, who's laughing now?
The singer confessed that American singer-songwriter Lauryn Hill and rapper Eminem would be his dream music stars to work with, but also cited Emeli Sande as "amazing".
When asked in an interview who was the best The X Factor judge, James answered "Nicole" without hesitation, adding: "She's my girl. I love Nicole, and I'll forever remain friends with her because she's inspired me so much".
James was born on 2nd March 1988, making him a Pisces. He shares a birthday with James Bond star Daniel Craig and singer Jon Bon Jovi.
The 'Impossible' singer and host of The Xtra Factor were seen cosying up outside a hotel in December, with James admitting in an interview: "Caroline's a laugh and we do flirt". However, he earned a reputation as a bit of a womaniser across the shows, confessing to having a crush on Tulisa, and dating Made In Chelsea star Kimberley Garner after his win, and confessed "it's nice to have female attention".
The singer has got 'Love' and 'Hate' tattooed on his knuckles, as well as having both arms almost completely covered in body art.
The singer/songwriter was only in the bottom two once in the entire competition, and was saved by the public vote in his sing off with Ella Henderson after the judges split their votes.
