The 'Read All About It' singer was the first to perform at the London 2012 closing ceremony.

Emeli Sande kicked off what is expected to be a star-studded closing ceremony for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The Scottish singer-songwriter performed an acoustic version of her hit single 'Read All About It' to open the highly anticipated closing ceremony, directed by David Arnold and Kim Gavin.

Emeli's performance saw her singing from a custom-built stage designed to feature some of London's biggest landmarks, including Big Ben, the London Eye and the Gherkin.

After her performance a large number of vehicles began driving around the Olympic track covered in newspapers, as actor Timothy Spall emerged from Big Ben dressed as iconic British prime minister WInston Churchil.

British ska-pop band Madness then appeared in stage to lead the thousands in attendance through a performance of their iconic hit single 'Our House', as the hundreds of volunteers performing tonight (12th August) staged street parties in the stadium.

This performance was followed by eighties electronic pop duo Pet Shop boys who led a procession on the back of a trailer to sing 'West Ends Girls'.

The London 2012 Olympic Games closing ceremony is expected to boast performances from the likes of The Spice Girls, One Direction, Jessie J, Tinie Tempah and Take That.
