Capital FM takes a look at all the hopefuls ahead of the nominations announcement for this year's BRIT Awards, including Rihanna, Calvin Harris, Ed Sheeran and One Direction.
Rihanna proved she is quite possibly the busiest star in pop music last year when she not only continued to release tracks from fifth album 'Loud' but also surprising everyone when she dropped new album 'Talk That Talk' in November as well. The singer performed 98 dates around the world on her acclaimed 'Loud' tour and scored two Vodafone Big Top 40 number one singles with 'What's My Name?' and 'We Found Love'.
In the five short months since its release Ed Sheeran's debut album '+' has already sold over 900,000 and the 20 year-old singer songwriter has released three hugely successful singles with 'The A Team', 'You Need Me, I Don't Need You' and 'Lego House'. Ed has also been announced as one of the performers for the BRITs nominations party.
Calvin returned in 2011 and brought with him two of the year's biggest club tracks. The Scottish DJ released Kelis collaboration 'Bounce' in April followed by the anthemic 'Feel So Close' in August and also found time to support Rihanna on her 'Loud' tour as well as producing the singer's Vodafone Big Top 40 number one 'We Found Love'.
Since releasing her debut album 'Who You Are' in February Jessie J has gone on to release five successful singles including a Big Top 40 number one with B.o.B collaboration 'Price Tag'. The singer topped off an impressive first year in the music industry by headlining the second night of Capital FM's Jingle Bell Ball.
The Black Eyed Peas launched their sixth album 'The Beginning' at the end of 2010 and followed it up with several huge singles including 'Don't Stop The Party' and 'Just Can't Get Enough' before hitting the road in June to take their 'The Beginning' tour across the world. Despite recently announcing a short hiatus the band are still big contenders for awards season.
Example came back in a big way in 2011 when he returned to the airwaves with third album 'Playing In The Shadows'. The rapper topped the Vodafone Big Top 40 with 'Changed The Way You Kissed Me' in June and released three further charting singles to boot before heading out on tour across the UK in November last year.
Pixie returned with her second album 'Young Foolish Happy' in November after filling up dance floors across the country with the record's lead single 'All About Tonight'. The 20 year-old singer even roped in the legendary Stevie Wonder to contribute to the album alongside artists like John Legend and Pusha T.
The Wanted have had a hugely successful twelve months after achieving two Big Top 40 number one singles with 'Gold Forever' and 'Glad You Came' and releasing second album 'Battleground'. The five boys are set to make an even bigger impact in 2012 after debuting on US television with an appearance on chat show Ellen this month.
Adele is likely to be a magnet for awards this year following the unprecedented success of her second album '21'. The singer-songwriter's lead single 'Rolling In The Deep' bought her massive attention stateside and follow-up 'Someone Like You' topped the Vodafone Big Top 40 twice in 2011. '21' has already been nominated for six awards at this year's 54th Grammy Awards ceremony.
Taio Cruz is currently gearing up for the release of his third studio album 'TY.O' in March and teamed up with 'Good Feeling' rapper Flo Rida for the record's lead single 'Hangover', while follow-up single 'Troublemaker' has already made a successful impact on the Big Top 40 chart.
