The 'Call My Name' singer was also welcomed back to the music reality show by Simon Cowell.

Cheryl Cole has made a dramatic return to The X Factor as a mentor for Take That singer Gary Barlow during the judge's house phase of the competition.

Yesterday (8th September) it was heavily rumoured that the Girls Aloud star was coming back to the music reality series and Simon Cowell tweeted "Welcome Back Cheryl" adding further fuel to the fire.

However, she was seen at Boughton House estate in Northamptonshire with Gary and sporting a beaming smile as she prepared to help out the series she was fired from last year.

The '3 Words' singer was axed from the US version by Simon Cowell – and had previously said she would never return to the show.

Her appearance with Gary was apparently brought about by the Take That singer – who reportedly went behind music mogul Simon's back to ensure she signed up.

It was said a meeting between the two following their duet at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert earlier this summer was where the conversations about a return to the show first began.

Tinie Tempah, Ne-Yo and Sharon Osbourne are all expected to make up the remaining mentors on the show.

It was recently reported that teen sensation Justin Bieber would also be assuming a similar role on the US version of the show with LA Reid.

Meanwhile, Cheryl has also recently hinted that a Girls Aloud reunion could be on the cards for before Christmas 2012.
