The 'Parachute' singer says Nadine's desire to be a solo success led to the band's three year hiatus.

Cheryl Cole has revealed one of the reasons behind Girls Aloud's hiatus in 2009 was because of bandmate Nadine Coyle's decision to fully launch her solo career in America.

The 'Call My Name' singer has opened up about the girl band's break three years ago and says the girls knew it was time to go their separate ways once Nadine started to focus more on her own career than the band's.

Cheryl recalls one occasion where the band were due to attend the Brit Awards, where they had been nominated for Best British Group, but Nadine chose not to attend with her four bandmates.

"I think we all expected her to come up with some sort of excuse, but she just admitted 'It's not really my thing'," Cheryl revealed, in her new autobiography Cheryl: My Story.

"I can remember a sort of stunned silence, like we'd all been slapped in the face," Cheryl continued, before adding: "But I was so cut up about my marriage this didn't really make the impact it probably should have."

The 'Under The Sun' singer also opened up about a time that Nadine brought her own personal manager along to the Girls Aloud tour bus, while preparing to launch her own solo career in the USA.

"It was no secret Nadine was trying to launch a solo career in America," Cheryl explained. "I felt we were lucky she was prepared to split herself in two. This was different though.

"Having her manager actually on tour with us was crossing the line, and that's when I knew that it was finally time for us to take a break."
