The singer was born on 2nd December, 1981 in Mccomb, Mississippi to parents Lynne and James Spears who named her Britney Jean Spears.
At the age of 11 Britney was cast as a Mouseketeer in The Mickey Mouse Club, which also starred her future boyfriend Justin Timberlake and pop rival Christina Aguilera.
Lynne Spears is an accomplished author who co-wrote two novels with daughter Britney and released her memoir Through The Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World in 2008.
The music video was shot at Venice High School in California where the hit musical Grease was also filmed 21 years before.
Britney has scored 5 UK number one singles to date with '…Baby One More Time', 'Born To Make You Happy', 'Oops!...I Did It Again', 'Toxic' and 'Everytime' all topping the chart.
Britney joined girl band Innosense in 1997 alongside Danay Ferrer, Mandy Ashford, Nikki DeLoach, Amanda Latona but left after less than a year to launch her solo career. Despite supporting Britney on her first tour their career never took off and they disbanded in 2003.
Britney first appeared on our screens at the age of ten in 1992 as a contestant on Disney's reality show Star Search, hosted by Ed McMahon. She won the first round but was eliminated after performing 'Love Can Build A Bridge'. Other stars that also appeared on Star Search early on in their careers include Christina Aguilera, Beyonce and Aaliyah.
Up until the age of 9 Britney was an accomplished gymnast.
Britney enjoyed a long relationship with Justin Timberlake during the early days of her career.
Britney went on to get engagement to Kevin Federline just three months after they met in 2004, they had two kids, got married and then got divorced in 2007.

At the age of 21 Britney became the youngest person at the time to receive a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. Acting twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have since superseded Britney when they were awarded a joint star in 2004 when they were 17.
"I don't own a cell phone," Britney told Us Weekly earlier this year.
Britney has an older brother called Bryan and a younger sister called Jamie Lynn. Sister Jamie Lynn rose to fame on Nickelodeon show Zoey 101, before having a baby girl in 2008, and now resides in Nashville, Tennessee. Bryan is a television producer living in New York City. He married Jamie Lynn's manager at a private ceremony in 2009.
Britney has collaborated with both Michael Jackson and Madonna. She performed 'The Way You Make Me Feel' with the King of Pop and recorded 'Me Against The Music' with the Queen of Pop. The singer has also worked on tracks with Will.i.am, Pharrell Williams and Rihanna on a remix of her single 'S&M'.

Britney and Justin started dating in 1999, their break-up in 2002 was the inspiration behind Justin's song 'Cry Me a River'.

She has sold over 100 million albums worldwide making her the 5th biggest selling female artist of all time.
So far in her career Britney has won 310 awards including Billboard, Grammy, VMA, EMA and World Music Awards.
Britney has two children, 6 year-old Sean Preston and 5 year-old Jayden James.
Britney told Us Weekly some of her and boyfriend Jason Trawick's favourite holiday spots are Las Vegas, Hawaii and Mexico.
She was named the World's Most Powerful Celebrity by Forbes magazine beating out the likes of Tiger Woods, Steven Spielberg, Madonna and U2. Forbes cited Britney's multitude of endorsement deals and overwhelming presence on the internet as justification for the singer's chart position.
