The Capital Late Show With Marvin Humes 10pm - 1am
As one of the most formidable pop stars on the planet, Beyonce has made some friends in very high places. Join Capital as the likes of Adele, Rihanna and even Barack and Michelle Obama reveal why they find Bey such an inspiration.
Usher told the world about his admiration for Beyonce when he presented her with the International Artist Award at the American Music Awards in 2007. Speaking from the stage, the 'OMG' singer simply said: "With gifts as big and generous as nature, a voice that touches the heart of everyone who hears it, a smile that can light up a stadium, she is something rare and special. In a world of divas and superstars, there is only one ... Beyonce!"
First Lady Michelle Obama is arguably Beyonce's biggest fan. She's often seen on the front row of the singer's concerts with daughters Natasha and Malia, and recently told People that she wishes she could be the 'Love On Top' singer. "Gosh. If I had some gift, I’d be Beyonce, I’d be some great singer," she said.
It's not just the pop world that Beyonce touches, celebrities of stage and screen all seem to idolise the 'Countdown' singer. The Twilight Saga star Dakota Fanning told The Daily Telegrah that she would like to be brought back to the earth as Bey. "I love who I am and I love my life but if I could be someone else I'd be Beyoncé in two seconds," she said.
When Gwyneth Paltrow decided to turn to music recently, there was only one person she turned to for help – her best friend Beyonce. The Hollywood actress has become close friends with Bey since her husband Coldplay's Chris Martin hooked up with Jay-Z and revealed recently that she often watches the 'Crazy In Love' singer's performances to pick up tips. “I studied Beyonce a lot and her concerts for her kind of confidence… and I'm lucky that I know some singers in real life."
She was one of the central figures during the London 2012 Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies, but for Emeli Sande there's something bigger than performing in front of hundreds of millions of people: working with Beyonce. Speaking to the Daily Record, the 'Countdown' singer said she would "love" to team-up with Bey, telling the Daily Record that "her voice is unparalleled".
Justin Timberlake and everyone's favourite pop star Beyonce go back a long way – the pair famously teamed up for a spoof of the 'Love On Top' singer's hit 'Single Ladies' for Saturday Night Live and have also made several appearances on stage together. And it seems the meeting left quite an impression on JT, who when asked during a recent fan Q&A on Twitter: "Do you often wish you were Beyonce?" he replied: "Doesn't everybody?"
Rihanna's signed to Bey's husband's Jay-Z's record label Roc Natio, so it's no surprise that the 'We Found Love' singer is a big fan of her mentor's wife. In a message on Twitter in 2012, she posted a picture of Bey with the message: "[She] could single handedly destroy the self esteem of an entire nation." With affection like that, surely it's only a matter of time before these to hook-up on a song together.
The music mogul and man responsible for helping put together One Direction has nothing but high words of praise for the singer. "Beyoncé is the biggest star we've seen in 20 years," he told one magazine following reports he has called the star and fellow US singer Lady Gaga "boring".
He once interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for an MTV Video Music Award to praise Beyonce's 'Single Ladies' and during an interview after the fallout he declared: "[Beyoncé] is the greatest living artist we have to date," as he looked to defend his actions. He is also rumoured to be helping the singer with her latest studio album in New York.
During a promo run in London last year, Nicki recalled the first time she met Beyonce was at the Yankee stadium at a Jay-Z show. "When I met her, she was a super sweetheart. The fact that she complimented me, I never forgot that. That stuck with me," she said. She also declared: "Just her name alone defines greatness, right? That push that every woman wants to be." She has since admitted that a collaboration between the pair is something her fans are really keen on.
Surely no celebrity has better summed up Beyonce than Katy Perry, who showed her love of the 'Halo' singer when she described her simply as "a true diva". Bey embodies everything that's good about divas – she's stylish, positive and beautiful.
She's one of the most successful female stars of all time and paid tribute to Beyonce's elegance when asked about the 'Single Ladies' singer. "What I like about her is that she knows what she's doing, she really did her homework and decided to stay elegant," she confessed after performing together at the 2008 Grammy Awards.
The former X Factor champion has been so inspired by the Destiny's Child star that she has pondered following her into the acting world. "Beyonce is a great girl, so lovely and down to earth and talented. She's definitely inspiring for females. I might go into acting like she did," she declared following reports that the song 'Halo' was originally intended for the 'Bleeding Love' singer.
It turns out that the Obama family's love of Beyonce does not stop at Michelle, her husband President Barack Obama is also a huge fan of the 'Countdown' star and believes she has had a really positive impact on his children Malia and Natasha. "Beyonce could not be a better role model for my girls because she carries herself with such class and poise and has so much talent," he said. Picture: Barack Obama Twitter
In early 2012, the 'Rolling In The Deep' singer named the 'If I Were A Boy' star as her dream duet partner. "I adore Beyonce, I've been listening to her since I was about 11," she told one interviewee. "I think her work as an artist and a singer is enviable in terms of the length of her career and how she's grown and grown." Adele also matched Beyonce's Grammys record this year after taking home six prizes – the most wins in a single night by a female artist.
She has one of the most distinctive and powerful voices in the game, but Florence Welch is still in awe of Beyonce. "I'm a huge fan of Beyoncé, she's incredible," she said after recalling a story of when she was DJ-ing at a party which Bey was attending. The 'Ceremonials' star said meeting Bey and husband Jay-Z was the "best moment" of her life.
Bey's influence doesn't just reach to the world of pop. She was picked out by adult cartoon Family Guy during one episode as lead character Peter Griffin sighed for a holiday and stated: "Awwww I wish I was Beyonce."
"Beyonce is absolutely beautiful and has the most phenomenal body. I'm a huge Beyonce fan, so it was big for me." These were the words of Mrs David Beckham when she saw the star wearing one of her outfits on TV.
