The 'Rolling In The Deep' singer is first artist for six years to achieve the impressive landmark for sales in a single year.

Adele's second studio album '21' has now sold five million copies in the US.

The 'Set Fire To The Rain' star has gained the remarkable feat for sales in a single year which has not been achieved since Usher in 2004 for his album 'Confessions'.

Earlier this month, the album overtook Amy Winehouse's 'Back To Black' to become the biggest selling record of the century in the UK.

'21' has produced the singles 'Rolling In The Deep', 'Someone Like You' and 'Set Fire To The Rain' and the British star has admitted that she will not be releasing a follow up album for at least two or three more years.
